Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• Gate arm drifts or sags at full extension. The main operator bracket has developed a fatigue crack at the weld seam, usually where the vertical post plate meets the horizontal arm mount. DIY or Call Us?

An owner can safely inspect: the data plate for the Viking model number, the bracket stamp for the part prefix, and whether the crack is surface-only or runs through the material. Use a flashlight and look for daylight through the bracket throat. If you see it, the bracket is compromised.

What goes wrong with DIY: welding a loaded gate bracket without relieving the gate weight first, which warps the repair and guarantees a second crack; using a 110V flux-core welder on 1/4-inch structural steel, which lays down filler that looks correct but lacks penetration; and grinding a crack without adding gusset reinforcement, which simply moves the stress concentration to the next weak point.
